Trust HistoryProposalAt a packed meeting of over 400 Notts County supporters at Meadow Lane on Wednesday 15 January there was a unanimous vote to give the go ahead for a Supporters Trust to be formed. Why Do We Need A Supporters Trust?Being a Notts County supporter has always been a turbulent roller coaster
ride but never more so than over the past few years. Irrespective of being
football's most promoted and relegated club, recent off field events have more
often than not taken precedence. The current predicament however can arguably be seen as the greatest threat
ever to the survival of Notts County as a football club. In administration since
June, debts have continued to grow and solutions to come and go. The demise of
ITV Digital, the collapse of the transfer market and spiralling wage costs have
all contributed and without doubt the situation must be reaching crisis point.
While it contributes nothing positive to apportion blame at this time few people
involved are immune from criticism. Of course, the innocent victims are, as
ever, the supporters. Over the past 20 years the primary (some might say only) interaction between
the club and its supporters has been repeated requests for additional finance.
Amazingly, levels of support of support have remained consistent and last year a
phenomenal £150 000 was raised to bankroll "the great escape" within the space
of a few weeks. Throughout this time supporters have had little or no real
influence on the key issues at the club with the exception of the Supporters of
Notts Action group (SNAG) campaign against the Brealey takeover. |
