After an unprecedented 534 days in administration, the future of Notts County Football Club is secure. The key aspects of the takeover are as follows:

  • 30.2 per cent Trust shareholding in Notts County Football Club
  • That means that if you are a member of the Trust you now have a share in NCFC
  • Trust representative at boardroom level
  • Agreement for the Trust to increase shareholding in the future when shares become available
  • Notts’ future at Meadow Lane guaranteed for 150 years
  • The club has no debts, apart from those that are ‘internal’ (i.e. loans taken out by individual investors)

That we are now in this position is due in no small part to the contribution of supporters up and down the country. The level of support given to us from fans of not just Notts County but other clubs has been absolutely phenomenal. The Blenheim consortium also deserve a lot of credit for coming forward at short notice and for working tirelessly to help secure the future of Notts County. In addition, Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Council have been incredibly supportive - not least through donations to the Supporters Trust to help us reach £250,000.

So how is that money being invested? Well, £151,000 buys the Supporters Trust a 30.2 per cent ‘stake’ in Notts County Football Club. So for the first time in the Magpies’ history, we - the fans - will have a significant shareholding in what is literally our football club. Furthermore, the Trust’s investment secures a fan representative at boardroom level.

The other £99,000 is a non-interest bearing loan to the football club. This money can be used in the future to purchase additional shares from the existing shareholders. Thus, in 18-24 months time the Supporters Trust could potentially own about 48 per cent of the club. The significant fact is that by having 30.2 per cent shareholding, the Supporters Trust effectively can influence decisions.

Moreover, no one has a controlling interest in the new Notts County.

Commenting on the takeover finally being completed, Trust Chair David Hindley said ‘this represents a new beginning in the future of Notts County Football Club. It is now imperative that the takeover represents a foundation stone, and that the club is built on solid foundations rather than false dawns and grandiose promises. Financially, the next few months and years will be tight and it is important that the club be managed in a prudent manner so that Notts County is never placed in such a perilous state again.'
