2005 Fans Survey Results

Welcome to the results of the Trust's 2005 Fans Survey.

In view of the disappointing performance on the pitch it is perhaps unsurprising that some of the satisfaction levels for the club are slightly lower than last year, however many of the questions received a very similar percentage.

Last year all the season ticket holders intended to renew while this year only 90% of 2004/5 season ticket holders intended to renew for the current season.
The figures on the club communication with the fans are still healthy but slightly less favourable than last year e.g. last year 85% strongly agreed or agreed that the club was heading in the right direction this year the figure is down to 72%, while 61% thought the club took on the views of its fans compared to 69% last year.

On value for money the results are almost identical to last year, with 66 % thinking the club gives good or better value for money. Last year 65% thought the club gave good value for money. While the prices in the club shop are considered good or better by 65% exactly the same percentage as last year, and 54.5% think the programme good value compared to 55% last year.
This is reflected in the view on ticket prices where 47% think season tickets are good or better value and only 7% think are poor value. Matchday prices are considered less good value but still only 23 % consider them poor value compared to over 40% last year.

Fewer people consider ticket arrangements to be poor this year, 14% compared to 18%. Most people are still reasonably happy with the facilities, 65% rating them good or better and 25% average; one improvement might be a ban on smoking in stands as a majority of fans (62%) would like to see this.
The importance of the internet is shown by the fact over half of the respondents consider it provides the most information to fans with the club site being the main source for 26% and other websites 30%, the NEP provides 21% and Radio Nottingham 17% with most of their Notts news.

As for the Trust our ratings have fallen slightly in most categories (2004 figures in brackets), 75% (81%) thinking we keep our members well informed, 68% (70%) thinking we listen to our members, 75% (81%) thinking we have clear aims and objectives, 51% (68%) thinking we make our aims clear to non-members. The largest drop is in those who agree with the statement the trust is an organisation heading in the right directions 71% compared to 90%. We obviously need to consider our communication strategy carefully.

As for the written-in comments, considering the timing of the survey it was not surprising that the managerial issue was amongst those raised by lots of respondents. About 60% of those who commented thought Ian Richardson should have been retained as manager. Among other issues that attracted several mentions were the ticketing and stewarding at the Middlesborough game, where there are clearly lessons to be learned in terms of getting people to sit in their correct seats in the stands. Further the club obviously does not get its message across all the time.

Ticket prices received comments, many of which reflected the poor fare served up at Meadow Lane last year. The lack of achievements on the field last year received several comments along the lines if only the players had demonstrated the commitment of the supporters.
Several people think the state of the Meadow Club is poor. This is something the club is trying to achieve through partnership. The catering in the Jimmy Sirrell was also considered poor with the speed of service a concern. The Trust has raised this issue with the club and will continue to do so.

Several fans would like to return to the Kop, though the Trust understands because of various policing issues this is unlikely in the near future.

Foul and abusive language is still prevalent in the stands and offends some supporters. There were many ‘pats on the back’s for the Trust along with a few brickbats. The Trust has communicated its findings to the Club and raise various areas of concern in particular.
